Where can I put my RORO skip ?
You can place a RORO skip on private property such as a front garden or driveway without applying for a license or parking permit.
To place a RORO skip on a public highway, road, or pavement you will however need a skip license. This is something we are able to support with and apply for on your behalf, including it in the cost of the skip hire service we offer to you
Additional Requirements:
Depending on the size and type of RORO skip, as well as the length of time you plan on keeping it to store waste, there may be additional requirements such as:
- reflective markings
- lockable lids
- traffic cones
- night-time safety lamps
We will advise you if any additional health and safety requirements apply with regards to our skip hire service, and work with you to find a solution that is both cost effective and hazard free.
Skip licenses and permits
When you enquire about our RORO skip hire services it is good to have an idea of whether you will need permits or licenses to be able to take delivery of your RORO skip, this way we are able to support you as best we can
When do you need a skip license
Skip licenses are required if the RORO skip is being placed on a public highway, road, or pavement. A parking permit may also be required for RORO skips that need to be placed in what would usually be a parking space, such as by the roadside on a residential street or in a designated parking bay.
These licenses usually permit you to have the RORO skip in this area for between 7-14 days and an extension would be required to exceed this time, we are able to support all customers of our RORO skip hire services with these licenses but it helps to know in advance whether you need one or not
How to apply for a skip license
Skip license applications need to be made to the local council in advance and granted before the skip arrives, usually taking about 3-4 working days to come through. As stated above, licenses last for 7-14 days on average, depending on your local authority
In most cases we can make the license application for our RORO skip hire customers, arrange permits and take care of any other additional requirements you may have
Do I need a skip permit ?
RORO Skips placed by the roadside on a residential street or in a designated parking bay usually need a parking permit in addition to the skip license. Parking permits for CPZ’s (controlled parking zones) and parking bay suspension certificates are normally charged at a daily rate by local councils.
You don’t need a permit or a license if you are placing the RORO skip on private property such as a front garden or driveway
How long can I keep my RORO skip ?
How long you can keep your hired RORO skip depends heavily on whether you require a skip license or permit to complete your skip hire request
Private Property
If you plan to keep your hired RORO skip on private property such as a driveway or front garden, then there is no set time limit and you are able to keep your RORO skip for as long as you need it. That is, provided that it does not cause any environmental or health hazards while it is being used to store waste.
Other – License Required
If a skip license was required to complete your RORO skip hire then in most cases these licenses last between 7-14 days and if you want to extend this then you would need to apply for a license renewal and ensure to have it granted before your first license period ends
In most cases we can apply for the skip license on your behalf and include it in the overall cost of the service. We can also advise you on the daily rates for parking permits if you need to suspend a parking space for the RORO skip, and apply to your local authority to obtain the permit.
Other Waste Management Services
